Sailing Programme 2025 summary

The Club has put together an exciting sailing, training and racing programme for 2025.  There are two Summer Cruises (UK to the Baltic Sea, South West Coast & Isles of Scilly), Boat Handling Training, RYA Training and RYA/MCA YachtmasterTM Preparation weeks through the year and Yacht racing.

Please note, these activities are only available to PYC Members (not Introductory Members).

At all other times the boats are available to be booked for ad-hoc cruises and mentoring by Club Skippers and Members.  Other trips are already planned to Northern France and the Channel Islands.

Summer Cruise 1 - Baltic Sea

The Baltic cruise plan in Quartette is 3 weeks going to Kiel, a total of 500nm, which is in part delivery from Gosport to the Netherlands and then onwards slower cruising to Kiel. Once in the Baltic there is plenty to explore in the south-west Baltic such as the Islands of Fyn (Funen) or Zealand (Sjaelland) so we will change over in Kiel for some of the 6 Baltic weeks and also go onto Copenhagen. Then there will be 3 weeks to get back to Gosport.

Adjacent skippers can agree to change over at alternative ports which are also available by train from Hamburg such as Rostock or Lubeck in north Germany, Flensburg or Middelfart in Denmark. Likewise the northward trip to Copenhagen can stay south if adjacent skippers agree before transport bookings are made.  But we need to avoid Kiel on Sunday August 10th due to an Ocean race start.

This cruise will go up on the web site and it will include some information about some of the places. Martin has done a lot of research on available transport options which will also go on the web site.

All the crew changes are at 18:00 hours on the Saturday unless agreed by skippers.

Racing Programme

yacht racing in the Solent

Sometimes a race becomes a competition to see who can keep moving with no wind!

In previous years we have entered the Junior Offshore Group (JOG) and RORC races.

These races provide a great experience, both for keen racers and those who have never raced before. Many of the races are actually two races over a weekend, with a night in harbour in between, so this allows us to enter (if necessary) with smaller crews and no need for overnight watches. There is also the Round the Island which is sure to book up quickly.

For those who have not raced before, PYC takes a relaxed approach to racing, with opportunities to take part in foredeck, cockpit, and helming.  We tailor our approach to racing to suit the needs of the individual crew member so if you are thinking of giving it a go then now is a good time to step forward.  It is a great way to learn new skills, or strengthen old ones, that you can apply to the rest of your sailing career.  Also we will be running some training weekends and you are encouraged to attend these before going on your first race.

There is a daily Racing premium fee in addition to the sailing fees to cover some of the costs associated with racing.

Race 1 - Round the Island Race - 6th to 8th June 2024.

Other races will be added once racing skippers have been allocated.
