WHY NOT HAVE A TRAIL SAIL BEFORE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN

Trial Sail

If you are interested in joining PYC, we offer two types of opportunity for you to meet us and have a sail on one of our yachts. In both cases you would be an introductory member; paying £40 for one month of membership which starts on the date you first sail with us. If you decide to join during this month, this would be subtracted from the full membership fee. You can join any other club sails that have spaces during your Introductory Membership (but not races, training or our Summer Cruise - for which you need to be a full member).

1.  Take part in a dedicated Trial Sail

We don’t want to keep you waiting too long to take part in an introductory sail, so if there is sufficient demand from a number of potential members we organise dedicated trial sails. These are one or two day sails with an experienced club skipper and mate. It is usually necessary to share a cabin. These run on exactly the same basis as a club sail, but are arranged for just introductory members. During the summer this is most likely to be on a week day, because our boats will already be busy at weekends.

The cost is just the sailing fee, plus introductory membership fee (£40), which we charge in advance.

We plan Trial Sails through the season - so far 2 Trial Sails have taken place.  Please complete our Trial Sail Planning Form if you are interested in an Trial Sail with PYC.

Current dates with spaces available:-

  • 2 day sail - Wednesday & Thursday 8th & 9th May 2024 (£96 + £40)

2.  Join a regular Club Sail

You join a regular club sail as an introductory member. Normally these would be two-day trips, with an overnight stop somewhere in the Solent, with a group of existing members. In this case the trip runs as a club sail and you would be charged the sailing fee, plus introductory membership fee, which we charge in advance followed by your share of any trip expenses (e.g. provisions, fuel, marina fees).

3. Introductory Membership

We appreciate that some potential members may like to try the club before they join, especially if new to sailing. To address this we offer a one-off introductory membership subject to the following conditions:

  • The introductory membership period lasts for one month, starting on the first day you sail with us.
  • During this month you have the option to apply for full membership.
  • You can only have an introductory membership once. If you choose not to join in the same membership year as your introductory membership, and later wish to join us you would need to apply for full membership immediately listing the two PYC member you sailed with.
  • Introductory members can sail with us as often as they wish during the period of their introductory membership, but cannot participate in training or racing and have no vote in any meetings of the club.
  • Introductory membership fees and sailing fees are payable in advance, to secure your introductory sail.
  • If you need to cancel your introductory sail, our cancellations policy is that sailing fees are only refunded if more than four weeks notice is given. Introductory membership fees will be refunded because the membership will not have started.
